| The National School Plant Management Association, NSPMA, chartered in 1995, was formed in the interest of enhancing and promoting the educational process. Its purpose is to provide for the exchange of information that improves school plant management, maintenance and care through the promotion of acceptable policies, standards and practices; and to promote the professional advancement of school plant management personnel.
Membership includes school superintendents, maintenance personnel, custodial supervisors, and others employed in school operations. NSPMA provides a professional organization for plant managers in the same way the ASBO, AASA and NSBA provide for other school administrators and board members. While still a
relatively young organization, the roots of NSPMA go back over a quarter of a century. NSPMA now has a membership of over 250 with representatives in thirty- five states and Canada. Governed by an
eighteen member
Board of Directors, NSPMA hosts an annual convention each spring in different states associated with NSPMA.
The NSPMA Annual Convention is a professional development opportunity
for participants allowing them to:
- See the latest equipment and materials,
- Discuss common concerns with a select group of
professional peers from across the country,
- Receive the latest professional information on issues
of vital importance
- Improve the effectiveness of day-to-day operations, and
- Enjoy both formal and social opportunities to network with
other professionals who share common goals.
The convention is also the occasion for
announcing the winner of the National School Plant Manager of the
Year Award. In addition to the conference, NSPMA publishes a
semi-annual
magazine, The National Facilities Journal, which is sent to all members.
NSPMA committees are exploring new avenues to
expand our resources, to ensure our members are kept appraised of
changes in federal legislation regarding education and educational
facilities, to certify school maintenance and operations managers
and to create a national clearing house for product certification.
Our goal is to become the organization that legislative leaders look
to when writing legislation. NSPMA is a growing organization with the objective of assisting school plant managers and through them the children of this great nation.
